  1. Cloud computing services help boost Open Text profit
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/22/us-open-text-results-idUSKCN0IB2H520141022
Friedman's third flattener was all about the technologies that made work flow more easily. In this article talked about how the Cloud computing services helped boost the profit for Open Text. It helped boost the profit because it make Open Text flow more easily and be able to be worked easier. This proves Friedman's point because it is a new technology that is a computer based program "talking" to another computer based program. This, in conclusion, helped improve the workflow resulting in an increased profit.

  2. "3 Reasons Why the Internet of Things (still) Doesn’t Make Sense"
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/innovations/wp/2015/01/16/3-reasons-why-the-internet-of-things-still-doesnt-make-sense/
This article discusses one pro of the internet and several cons of it. First, the article states that the Internet has allowed for productivity and efficiency to increase, but there are several bad factors accompanying that pro. The first con was cost. The internet is allowing for new apps to be made everyday but some apps are getting expensive. For example. a new electronic coffeemaker seems innovative and time efficient but it is topped with a hefty price tag. Second, the article discusses that there are so many apps that at times they do not work well with each other. For example, iOS and Android have a hard time working together because of the different softwares. This article ties in with the third flattener because it discussed that internet increased productivity, which ties in with work flow. The biggest similarity with this article and the third flattener is the fact that SMTP, HTML and HTTP were programs that helped different softwares work together, but now in the modern world we need an innovation that will allow iOS and Android to work together. The article overall explained that the world needs to create a new flattener.

  4. From a Facebook Founder Comes a Long Way To Streamline Workflow
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/technology/from-a-facebook-founder-a-social-network-for-the-office.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
Friedman's third Flattener addressed the ability to share information all throughout the world. He states that workflow software gives everyone access to manipulate data. In this article, one of the founders of Facebook, Dustin Moskovitz, creates a new massive network similar to Facebook called Asana. Asana gives people the ability to share work assignments from one headquarters in China to another in Canada in little to no time. Tasks can be named, subdivided and ranked in order of necessity. Asana allows the same ability of emails, in-person meetings and long-distance phone calls in one website.

  5. Sharing, and Borrowing From, the Vacation Photo Album
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/21/technology/personaltech/sharing-and-borrowing-from-the-vacation-picture-album.html
In the 3rd flattener proposed by Friedman, he states that through the internet, communication is possible without direct communication. He states the "work flow software" in which allows one or many people to share medias around the world without directly being in presence. The article "Sharing, and Borrowing From, the vacation photo album" talks about the new technology that allows one to create an album online, so anyone who wants to see it can have access to it. With that idea, Apple developed the Icloud photo share. The pictures that are on your phone can be uploaded into the app and you can invite other people to view the album with you just by adding their phone numbers. This app is great because, friends and family can like and comment on the picture if given the option. The shared album also hold up to 5,000 pictures. Icloud photo share is a great method for people around the world to view the pictures and manage the project.

  6. “British Prime Minister Suggests Banning Some Online Messaging Apps”
    http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/01/12/british-prime-minister-suggests-banning-some-online-messaging-apps/

Friedman’s third flattener, which he titles “Work Flow Software”, is about information being able to be shared all across the world and for the ability for machines to talk to other machines, without the help of humans. Friedman incorporates a quote that was said by Microsoft’s Mundie, which states, “We need to make it much easier not just for people to talk to people, but for machines to talk to machines-for machines to interact with other machines about any subject without any humans involved at all.” However, could sharing information and communicating with other people online go too far? The British Prime Minister thinks so, and makes a suggestion to ban some social media apps, such as Snapchat and Facebook. After the attacks in Paris and other terrorist threats, he believes that these social media apps could lead to future terrorist threats. This is his reason for wanting to prohibit these social media apps.

Google Docs allow people to create documents and share them in the cloud through your email account. Many schools, like ours, use Google for writing papers and handing in papers. It is a free alternative to costly application like Microsoft Word for example. The truly amazing thing about Google Docs and Spreadsheets is that it is tailored to collaboration. People from around the world can access the same document and make edits at the same time as someone else. It updated on the other person’s screen and saved immediately. The Work Flow Software chapter was all about people being able to collaborate with others without worrying about their location. It was also about computers being able to interpret data and for them to be compatible across multiple platforms. That is exactly what Google Docs allows people, and computers, to do.

The third flattener that Friedman discusses is the work flow software. Work flow software is the advancement in machines. Machines were now able to interact and talk to each other without any human assistance. This creates a less of a need for human labor, because machines can assist doing tasks. Within the article, it explains Microsoft’s newest invention: the HoloLens. This invention is basically goggles that let you interact and see the Internet and other applications right in front of you in a holographic form. Not only does this show the advancement in technology, but it also shows how the interaction between human and machine is growing, along with machine to machine.

  10. The Introduction Work Flow Software was discussed by Friedman as the advancement in technology and the improvement of the system between machines. The work flow software allowed for small businesses to be able to connect to larger businesses and collaborate on working issue. It also allowed for the advancement in machine to machine interactions which made the process of communicating for two machines to be able to run smoother. The article GoBe calorie counter put to the test , is an article on a new band machine that interacts with the body through electro current through a process known as impedance. This new tech not only shows the advancement between the connections of a human to a machine but is able once it has connected and collected its data from the human to then be able to connect to another machine and be able to broadcast the information found in an easy to understand display.
